Hearing different things about how to install real hardwood over existing ceramic tile floor. Since HW is an expensive investment, I want to do this right.

1. Can I nail 3/4" plywood over ceramic tile prior to nail installation of 3/4" HW planks? If not, why?

2. Glueing concerns me due to slippage. Thoughts?

What you're looking at will raise the vertical floor height considerably. It can be done but if you're looking at an expensive investment I would prefer removing the ceramic tile and going from there.

Believe it or not, the previous owners installed the living room floor so that it is about 1.5" HIGHER than the kitchen floor, which is why I am even considering the "plywood atop cermaic tile" option.

Was concerned about the grip when I nail the plywood through ceramic, ceramic shattering, etc.
