I am in the process of having a chalet style home built in northern Michigan, and I am in need of flooring ideas primarily for the living/dining room area. The inside of the exterior walls in this area, as well as the cathedral ceilings are going to be tongue & groove knotty pine. My question is, what kind of flooring would be best here? I have ruled out carpet & I love wood, but will this be TOO much wood given the knotty pine present? I should add that the interior walls will be drywall, so not all the walls will be pine.

the major choices for flooring are (1) carpet(2)lino (3) laminate (4)hardwood (5) ceramic (6)vinyl tile.
only you can choose.but if you like wood ,then go with that...too much wood ,i don't think so ,you will put rugs on it anyway...good luck

Up here in alaska, there are lots of homes with wood walls and cabinets. I have seen only one person actually put wood on the floor as well, and when you walk in, if it wasn't for the furniture, you wouldnt know if you were upside down or rightside up!
A rug will help break it up, but a perfect marriage to wood is tile, so you can do tile looking vinyl, tile looking laminate or tile.
99% of the folks up here do that to their cabins. They all can't be wrong.
