Hello out there. Well I had everything sooooo well thought out with our new countertops. I attached Hardiebacker 500 (1/2") on top of 3/4" exterior grade plywood--using the proper screws and thin-set mortar. The hardibacker does NOT line up with any plywood joints.

I then attached the ceramic tile--using thinset. Only potential problem--I FORGOT TO USE FIBERGLASS TAPE on the hardibacker joints. I had it sitting right there; I simply forgot that little step!

The tile is very strong porcelain floor tile...and very large--almost 24x16" EACH.

So my question (finally!): In your experience, can leaving out the fiberglass tape really mess things up? And if so, how?

Thanks in advance for your advice!
