This is a bit odd since my condo was only built in 2001, but there is severe cracking in the sealant of my bathroom along the cupboards and the countertop. On one end of the countertop, there is about a half-inch gap where it is completely detached from the wall. Here is a pic:

The brace underneath the countertop was not screwed into the ceramic for obvious reasons and whatever glue (silicon?) was holding the counter has come off.

So, for all the bathroom gurus out there - what would you suggest as the most cost-effective and efficient way of fixing this up? What about prevention?
