Any advice on what could be used to clean the floors, or do you think the grayness is a result of some sort of "bleaching" of the floor? They're quite beautiful floors but have lost their "richness". Thanks in advance.

Wood flooring damaged by kitty litter
Our 65-year old random width pegged flooring has been "damaged" by kitty litter tracked in--not by cats--but by party-goers walking on our kitty litter-sprinkled icy walkway! I've washed the floors with plain water, light soapy water, wood floor cleaner, and the floors are definitely a lot better, but the grain in the more high traffic areas are still fairly gray. The floors are dark without a finish, to my knowledge, on them.
bemsue,
The grayness in the wood in the traffic area isn't so much a result of the kitty litter but from the water and cleaners. This grayness is usually in the wood itself and requires sanding that top layer of wood off to get below the color. This means resanding the whole floor.
