We have a 1 bedroom apt (4th floor) in need of good sound insulation (there is no subfloor in our building), and are wondering if wall to wall carpeting is a good decision.
The current wood floors will be sanded and refinished by our contractors, so I am a bit reluctant to immediately tack on carpet.
Initially we thought of getting carpet cut to size and bound to use as large area rugs; but the price difference for installing it wall to wall is slight such that it seems like a bad idea not to.
Furthermore we cannot find anyone who has gone with our initial idea to give us feedback and read that carpet will wear down if used without proper padding.
I was thinking of carpeting the bedroom wall to wall and part of the living room. Leaving some wood floors exposed by the entrance hallway /dining area.
Then thinking that our place is so small, it should probably just be entirely carpeted.
I read that wood floors are more hygienic and easier to maintain. But carpet seems like it will make the apartment more cozy.
Which is better for an apartment's resale value? Which is easier to maintain and keep clean? Carpeted or wood floors?
And if we are getting it carpeted, is it possible to immediately install it right after the floors are refinished? (read that the refinished floor needs to cure properly first)
Thank you. Your suggestions are greatly appreciated
