Bvflooring
I have to let the builder know any upgrades, and I am thinking of upgrading to slate flooring where I would have had ceramic tiles. Any reason why this is not a good idea. Thanks

We considered slate untill we talked to many folks who have iot and found that it stains and is not as easy to take care of as ceramic tile. Also, I am not sure why itr would be an upgrade. There are ceramic tiles that cost more than slate flooring does

Excellence is its own reward!

There are some ceramic at the same price as some slate. But not Builder grade ceramic.

Hi Coates,

Good luck and congratulations on your new home!

We had a slate floor once (several houses ago!) and I never much cared for the look of it. (Ours was in an entryway area.) My wife liked it but it was (I thought) too dark.

As has been mentioned, you can spend PLENTY for ceramic tile--and a lot of it is very beautiful and the look could be VERY different from slate.

By the same token, you could choose marble, hardwood, or ???, any of which can look very beautiful as well but might not be the look YOU want.

So I guess what I'm saying is that it's really the look YOU want and how much you're willing to pay for it. You might be living there a loooonnnnng time! If an "upgrade" doesn't cost too much more and you love it, why not spend some more?

But if it's SOMEONE ELSE'S idea of an "upgrade," why bother?

Just my two cents!

Regards,
