I have a shed roof I'm trying to trim, and have used a boxcutter blade, some large and medium construction-type snips and everything seems to leave a jagged line and be really difficult. Is there a magic tool that the pros use to do this job? I am considering replacing my roof as a do it yourself job, but I won't if I can't figure out the trimming part...thanks for your help!

Shingles are 'scored' on the back side with a razor knife, then simply 'snapped' apart.

Does this work when they are already in place? Or do you have to trim them before applying? The shed directions said to put them up, then trim, but it's hard to score & snap this way.
