I need to remove a slate floor and then will install a new ceramic tile floor. I believe the slate is laid on a 1-1/2 inch of concrete which is between the joists, supported underneath with plywood between the joists. Or the joists may be cut down where the floor is. Is there a way to get the slate out and use the concrete as a base for the ceramic tile? Or would I need to add a backer board?
