Is it a dumb idea to lay down reflective insulation before my new carpet and pad are laid down?

I have a crawl space that currently has no insulation. I just bought the home and am assuming the floors will be cold. I've tried to get an insulation contractor to come give me advice but everybody is busy.

I live in the midwest on Lake Michigan so winters are cold and heating is a major cost.
