Plan on laying ceramic tile on a concrete floor that years ago had vinyl flooring, the concerte is black from the glue, can I lay the thin set over this or should I remove it and if so with what?

I am an expert but I would think that most tile people would want a good surface prior to applying their tiles. There are Black Mastic Removers (and it probably is asbestos based) made by Sentinel and Dumond Chemicals (www.dumondchemicals.com). They are specifically made to do your job.
