I recently had a new house built and I have a question about my yard. They seeded the yard, but I am afraid with winter coming nothing will come up. I have started to notice some small shoots of grass under some leaves in my yard(dirt) but in other places nothing. I only signed on the house yesterday and I plan to start watering it today. Will the seed that is out now be destroyed by the winter or will it remain dormant until the spring.

Hi Ledge,
It's a little late for new seeding here in New England, but if you have some growth, there's hope.I can't answer your question about dormant seeds and if they'll sprout next spring, however,I'd water the yard as if it was still summer and see what happens with the weather. Most seeds sprout in a week or two so you could see more growth before the ground freezes.Good Luck!
