Hi folks, I was wondering what people thought about making your own inlay-like design in your wood floor when you install it.
Like a simple geometric pattern of rectangles/lines using a different stained/hardwood?
I plan on using a Jotoba 5" wide eng. hardwood flooring. If I got a 3" lighter wood with the same thickness and grooving and make some diagonal cuts I could use that as a border. And all of this will installing the flooring.
Practical? Any expansion issues or any problems? Thanks for the responses!

- Hardwood Floor Install - Make your own Inlay?
practicality depends on intricasy and what you time is worth weighed against the cost of pre-made inlays.
the worst part is getting everything to fit tight so it looks nice.
there should not be any expansion and contraction issues if everything is smooth, gap-free, and sealed properly.
