Bvflooring
What would cause 3 or 4 18x18" floor tiles to raise up after 4-5 years in a small contained area while the entire flooring remains stable and secure thru out a 2nd fl residence? No evidence of water/condensation in this area. Comments? Thanks, MH

1.If the tile was cut tight to the wall, or grouted to the wall; the expansion & contraction of the wall studs can pop tile loose.

2. Tile just wasn't installed well enough in that area.

3. There is water there messing with things & you haven't noticed yet.

4. Structural stuff. Boards warping, failing, etc...

5 House settling.

Number 1 is usually the most likely culprit. "Tenting" is actually kind of common when guidelines aren't followed. If this is the problem try to redo the area and leave space against the wall. Cover this with shoemold and check the other areas of the tile for tightness or grout & fix accordingly.

I vote for "tenting" due to lack of perimeter expansion joints.

John Bridge's website forums are excellent. They have guys from all over the country there who love to help anyone with any problems they're having concerning their floors. I've been installing for a long time and I go there to continue learning from the older guys.

Should I discard the Astro Turf and pressure clean the patio b/4 I lay down new Astro Turf or is the existing A Turf worth saving after treating w/chemical pressure cleaning?

Anything else you might recommend?

And thanks for your response/recommendations.
