Metal gambrel roof meeting lower pitched roof and leaking.

Hello all

I have a gambrel barn roof with another lower pitched roof that meets this roof.

My problem is that snow builds up on the lower roof and melts into the gambrel roof and into the house beacuse the contractor who installed it just put in soffits (hopefully you can see what I mean from the pictures).

Is there something I can use to either put behind or substitute for the soffits? Sorry I don't have a pic handy without snow on it.

Are you saying he put vents where snow piles up and then melts and water leaks in? Then they are located in a bad spot and need to be changed.Or blocked off at those points.

Not vents, they ran the soffit all the way to the other roof line so it leaks. Also we have a metal roof so its got the peaks and valleys and the soffit line just goes across the peaks so even when it rains it is getting in there.

I don't know what we could block it off with, we were thinking of making an eavestrough inside the soffit and have it catch all the water under this roof so it would drain out

The first piece of stepflashing must drain past and show on the other side on the gambrel. I sure wish you took the photo from the corner up closer !!

If you make a pn at the bottom to direct the flow,..it will back up through the second stepflashing !!

If you can`t slide a piece of cardboard from the edge of the soffit to the wall,...you have leak !!

I wouldn't try to do too much on the roof by yourself. To me, it sounds like you have a leak. It should be looked at by a professional Indianapolis Roofing Contractor. You can never be to careful when dealing with roofs.
