please help, i have been fightin ants little tiny black ants in my kitchen for the last 4 years. they come in april and sometime dont leave until december or jan. we thought we had them licked with the little terro baits but they just eat them like theyre candy. then i could not leave a bag of trash on my carpect for 5 min. or the bottom of the bag on the capect would be swarming with tiny black ants. well the carpect has been taken up and bruce hard wood floors have been put down and guess what? i now see them around the baseboard on the new hard wood floors. do i need a exterminator, i hear they are sooo expensive or can i do something.

Keep up the Terro Bait. That's all the exterminator is going to do anyway. That's about all you can do.I usually have a minor problem also around the 4th of July when it's really hot. Try to find the place where they are actually entering the house and put the bait there.

When we moved into this house, the first spring we were swarmed by ants. There was a 6 inch wide ribbon of ants that spread 20 foot across our living room. They were all over the floor. It was bad. We sucked up the major part of them and then put out terro bait traps. They DO eat it like candy but keep in mind that they're carrying it back to a huge nest and sending their buddies back for more. It takes a few days but they do die.

Once they were all gone, we blocked the hole they were coming through (a nice fist sized hole behind the baseboard) and sprayed the entire foundation outside with Ortho Home Defense. It took care of the issue for years. We had some come in under the new wood floor last fall but two traps ended that quickly.

Terro also has a powder you can put along the foundation. That I haven't tried since Ortho worked so well.

There is a newer product out called Termidor, available to pro pest control companies that works great when used as an outside perimeter treatment. It may not be approved for some states or areas and can only be used twice a year. I have used this and found that a little while after the first treatment....no more ants!
