I have a 12 yr old house that has just developed blackish roof stains in areas that receive full sun all day with no overhanging trees. No bleach solutions affect the stains.

Any suggestions?

DeliDave - hi, that problem's been discussed here in this thread before...it's some type of mold. If you look through this area, or do a search for "stains", I think you'll find it. I believe the cure involves copper or zinc strips at the peak of the roof. Good luck! Jim D/West Point, VA

Thanks a lot, Jim. I've seen those posts, but I am curious how you initially remove the stains

DeliDave - hi again, I thought those earlier posts may have included some tips for the stain removal. If not, hopefully Dodgeroof or one of the other expert roofers who frequent these boards will help you out. I don't believe you want to be scrubbing those tiles as you'll damage their integrity and increase the chances of creating a roof leak. Sorry I'm not of much help to you. Regards!
