Tour of the Home's Exterior, Lighting Design, and Completed Kitchen

Project: Victorian Restoration, Episode 13, Part 1

The Victorian house in Medford, MA is complete, and Bob guides a tour of the finished restoration. Outside, the homeowner and Bob talk about the new features in the yard, including the new porch and pergolas. The barn has a new second-floor studio area with refurbished wide plank flooring.

In the main house, Bob talks to Markus Earley about the lighting design in the dining area, and tours the new kitchen, before meeting with Tim Woods (from Internet Home Alliance) to talk about the "connected home" features that have been added.
Part 1: Tour of the Home's Exterior, Lighting Design, and Completed Kitchen
In this segment, Bob tours the exterior of the completed Victorian restoration project house, pointing out the contemporary green color scheme, and the breezeway connecting the old barn and the main house.

The barn now houses an artist's studio and features refinished wide-plank floors. In front of the house, Bob meets homeowner Rikk Larsen to discuss more exterior features, such as the side deck with trellises, and the center bay with its third-floor Romeo-and-Juliet balcony.

Inside, Bob joins lighting designer Markus Earley, who has installed low-voltage blue halogen fixtures over the dining table. The fixtures are mounted in the center of a custom-bent monorail track system, which holds other halogen spotlights as well. Markus also points out the Lightolier Evolution fixtures used in the bay window and elsewhere in the house.

Next, Bob tours the open-plan kitchen with its Merillat cherry cabinets and the salvaged breakfast nook-- the only remaining feature from the original kitchen. The kitchen features durable black Silestone countertops, which work well with the stainless steel finish of the new Thermador residential stove.

Part 4: Review of the Home Office Electronics
Located just five miles from downtown Boston, Bob's scouts discovered a Victorian-era house in a neighborhood of family homes on tree-lined streets that was past due for a full-scale renovation.

The home's new owners, a work-at-home family, have set goals to modernize the home's floor plan, update the building's mechanical and electrical systems, and add home office and work spaces for two busy professionals.
