Selecting Light Fixtures
Project: Victorian Kitchen & Bath Remodel, Episode 11, Part 2
Bob learns about the need for secondary exits in upstairs bedrooms from Steve Forman, as contractor Tim Berky installs the Redi-Exit fire escape at the Rowley Victorian. This latching fire escape can hold up to 800 pounds, is weather-proof, and costs about $1,100 installed. Next, AJ Paron-Wildes joins Bob inside to look at lighting fixtures from Bellacor.com that will complement the home's period style and also meet the functional lighting needs of the family. And finally, after Berky finishes hanging one last door, all the doors and cabinets in the new space will be dressed with reproduction oil-rubbed bronze hardware from House of Antiques Hardware (which even reproduced the black porcelain knobs and escutcheons that were original to the house).
- Part 1: Installing a Fire Escape
- Part 2: Selecting Light Fixtures
- AJ Paron-Wildes (from Bellacor.com) joins Bob to talk about selecting lighting fixtures. Depending on the room or activity, different fixtures are recommended.
- Part 3: Installing a Solid-Core Cherry-Veneer Door
Bob undertakes the partial remodeling of a historic Victorian home in Rowley, MA. The house is a classic New England gem with many partitioned rooms, a large yard, and preserved wetlands beyond. The owners want to make their home more family friendly, and to open it up for casual entertaining. The architect helps create a design that works for the house and the family. From permits and approvals to the addition of a mudroom and a deck to the installation of cabinets and cozy radiant heat, this project focuses on family space. Appliances are modernized and updated, while architectural details like the Queen Anne window, reproduction trim, and copper roof are added to restore the original character to this historical beauty.

These solid-wood framed, double-paned, argon-filled, low-e glass doors let in light, retain warmth, prevent heat gain, and have a triple-latch system for added security. -
