Installing Molding on the Kitchen Cabinets
Project: Modern Colonial, Episode 20, Part 3
Following a quick tour of the project house's front hall, Bob visits the Port Royal parlor and hall at Winterthur in Wilmington, Del., to see a classic example of a formal entryway. Bob returns to the North Bennet Street School in Boston to learn about one of the other unique skills taught there, the art of bookbinding. At the project house, Paul Andersen is hard at work installing the Wellborn cabinets and moldings in the kitchen, and custom bookshelves are underway in an upstairs bedroom.

- Part 3: Installing Molding on the Kitchen Cabinets
- Paul Anderson attaching pre-finished crown molding around the kitchen cabinets in the modern Colonial project house. Each section is miter-cut, then dry-fit to ensure a tight joint before it is secured with nails. Because the molding is pre-finished, there is not a lot of room to play with, so Anderson makes sure that each section is a perfect fit. Finally, he adds the pre-cut dental molding.
This project focuses on the construction of a Colonial-style home built with both history and the future in mind. While the 4-bedroom, 4-bath home will have a traditional exterior and interior detailing, the plan will suit the needs of a modern family, including easy-maintenance fireplaces, a great room, master suite, sun room, 3-car garage, and a large walk-out basement with plenty of room for recreation and indoor/outdoor living.
