Glass Block Floor Panel System
Bob talks to Fred Giuggio (from Quick-Step) about the new interlocking laminate floor system being installed. In the master bathroom, a glass block wall is being constructed along one wall of the shower. It's been designed to allow light into the room, while still providing privacy. Also, general contractor Charlie Tomaszewski installs a unique glass block floor system from Circle Redmont. In the basement, a new water filtration system is going in, and Bob talks with Dave Krupinski from Kinetico about the process.

- Part 2: Glass Block Floor Panel System
- Mary Lou Pace from Circle Redmont joins Bob to watch the installation of the monolithic glass block floor panel system custom-manufactured for this project. The panel, which is completely structural, is made using an extruded aluminum framework to support the hollow annealed glass blocks.
Annealed glass is a very strong double-sided, double-faced form of glass. It has a sandblasted finish on the walking surface to make it slip resistant. (And it's rated 60 pounds per square foot, or higher, significantly more than traditional residential flooring).
The cost runs approximately $100 per square foot. The panels each weight about 250 pounds. To install the unit, workers carry the glass block panel up the stairs and slide it into position on three 2x4's placed over the opening. While one man raises the panel from below, another slides out the 2x4's and drops the panel into place. When finished, the wood floor will come right up to the edge of the panel. - Part 3: Kinetico Water Filtration System Installation
- Part 4: Update on Deck, Breezeway, and Barn/Studio
Located just five miles from downtown Boston, Bob's scouts discovered a Victorian-era house in a neighborhood of family homes on tree-lined streets that was past due for a full-scale renovation.
The home's new owners, a work-at-home family, have set goals to modernize the home's floor plan, update the building's mechanical and electrical systems, and add home office and work spaces for two busy professionals.
