Front Porch Work

Project: Federal-Style Home, Episode 7, Part 1

Bob covers some of the techniques involved in stripping and repainting the house's original siding. Also, Bob tours a Georgian architectural gem with twin octagonal parlors a few blocks away. Then, some of the new factory-made shutters are put on the old Federalist home.
Part 1: Front Porch Work
Bob reviews the progress being made on the front of the house and, with restoration contractor Richard Marks, discusses the original brick and masonry work.
Part 2: Guillard-Bennet House Tour
Bob Vila tackles the revitalization of an exquisite Federal-style home, built in the early 1800s, which survived the Civil War but barely survived Hurricane Hugo in 1989. A major aspect of the project is the painstaking process of restoring the original plaster ornamentation and woodwork to their original detail.
