Fast-Pace Drywall Installation and Mold-Resistant Interior Siding
After a quick progress report, Bob meets Thad Goodman from Georgia-Pacific who is installing GP DensArmor drywall.
Next, Bob and Chris Vila head to the roof where Dino Koukoudakis from Dino's Construction is installing a new Wasco skylight, which will provide natural light for the 4th floor apartment. Future plans for the rooftop also include a hardwood deck.
Bob pays another visit to developer and artist Jane Walentas, this time getting a tour of her multi-story luxury loft space around the corner from the project building.
Back on site, Bob and Chris talk more about the façade restoration with Cas Stachelberg from Higgins and Quasebarth, a New York City firm focused on the preservation and rehabilitation of historic properties.

- Bob spends a moment with the drywall contractor, Tarcisio Ferreira of Nu-Look Painting. Mr. Ferreira alludes to the challenge that construction crews face in New York, where time and space constraints force contractors to work around one another.
Next, Thad Goodman of Georgia Pacific tells Bob about the unique, mold-resistant properties of DensArmor, the interior wall panel being used in the warehouse rehab. Bob Vila heads to the DUMBO neighborhood of Brooklyn, NY, for this project involving an abandoned warehouse built in the mid-19th century. Bob's adaptive reuse will yield three ultra-hip apartments with commercial space at street level. Project manager is Bob's oldest son, Chris Vila, who helps guide this complete rehabilitation of a beat-up building in the city that never sleeps.

Interior work and demolition are progressing simultaneously. Bob and his son, the project manager Chris Vila, review three weeks' worth of progress. Work performed to date includes removing an old elevator shaft and sandblasting exposed wood and brick surfaces. A new tongue and groove plywood subfloor is being installed and basic wall framing has begun. Also, Bob takes us on a water taxi tour to learn more about the history of heavy industry along Brooklyn's waterfront. -
