Touring a Pierce Allen-Designed Apartment

Project: Miami Beach Condo, Episode 6, Part 2

The bathroom gets a contemporary update that includes a sleek new toilet, chrome-finish faucets, a shower spa with multiple sprays, and a vanity sink.

Heating and cooling systems are established by way of a closet HVAC installation. The self-monitoring, water-cooled HVAC unit has an automatic shutoff valve that prevents damage in case of malfunction.

Part 2: Touring a Pierce Allen-Designed Apartment
Bob and interior decorator DD Allen visit a Miami apartment designed by Pierce Allen. Formed by the merging of two separate units, the apartment now has three bedrooms and an open living, dining, and kitchen area.

Unifying the disparate elements of the design is the color scheme-- white with occasional punches of color. Allen filled the one-thousand-square-foot space with all types of vintage pieces, such as the Kagan sofa and table, and an old ship's dining chairs, recovered in white.

In contrast, the dining table is the product of surfboard technology. It's modern in design and has contemporary finishes. The unifying concept of the apartment is the color scheme that is all white with punches of color throughout.

The kitchen, white with lime green accents, has a molded Corian counter. Elsewhere, eclectic touches are found. For instance, vintage glass panels and original handles grace the doors to the guest bedroom.

The master bedroom waits behind pivoting, laminated, frosted-glass doors. In the room, lucite shelves, a bright pink ultra-suede wall, leather accents, and glass all combine to give a funky feel to the sleek, monochromatic design that is consisent throughout the apartment.

Part 4: Installing Moen Faucets in the Bathroom Vanity
In this condo renewal project, Bob and the crew demonstrate how to use space, color, and choice finishes to make the most of a small space.

The kitchen is converted into an elegant dining space looking onto the living area, while a closet is transformed into a bar with recessed lighting and glass shelves. And the small bathroom turns into an oasis with luminous glass tile, a wash of color, and sleek new fixtures.

Pocket doors with an antique-look are installed so as to separate the living and sleeping spaces, and furniture is selected to reflect Miami's unique personality.

Finally, the outdoor space overlooking Biscayne Bay is made practical and, perhaps most importantly, comfortable.
