Door Lock Installation

Project: Modern Colonial, Episode 19, Part 4

Bob starts work in the newly-constructed Craftsman workshop, meeting up with Bob Ryley to begin work on a new planter box that will reside in the sunroom underneath the enormous picture window.

In Wilmington, DE, Bob tours the historic Dominy Workshop at Winterthur, An American Country Estate founded by Henry Francis du Pont. The museum curator Greg Landry shows Bob their display of pre-industrial tools.

Back in Massachusetts Bob tours The North Bennet Street School in Boston and visits the locksmithing classroom. At the project house, Ryley is installing the Baldwin locksets on the front door.

Part 4: Door Lock Installation
Bob Ryley is installing the new lockset from Baldwin Brass on the front door. Ryley's advice for getting started: find a clean open space to spread out your materials, and most importantly, read the directions.

Ryley's already hung the striker plate, and the next step is to attach the dead bolt and the thumb latch. The brass hardware comes with corresponding hinges to create a matched set.
This project focuses on the construction of a Colonial-style home built with both history and the future in mind. While the 4-bedroom, 4-bath home will have a traditional exterior and interior detailing, the plan will suit the needs of a modern family, including easy-maintenance fireplaces, a great room, master suite, sun room, 3-car garage, and a large walk-out basement with plenty of room for recreation and indoor/outdoor living.
