Making a Custom Trim Molding for Sliding Doors

CLOSE

Bob talks with Lou Sandonato from Moynihan Lumber about the molding for the newly installed sliding doors. Sandonato explains how a piece of the old trim was taken off and a template made from it. The template was used to create a custom molding knife to cut the profile in the new molding. Once the knife is made, any amount of wood can be cut using the template. The majority of the cost is in the making of the knife itself. Bob emphasizes that for a big remodeling project, it makes a lot of sense to use this method. We watch how the knife is made and used to cut a length of molding. Moynihan Lumber also made the molding for an odd-sized window for the home. More information
