Salvaged Door Installation

Bob and Ryley install a salvaged door on the new addition. Because the door has no casings they can go ahead and attach it to the frame. Ryley first shims the frame so the edges are plumb. He points out the lead shield that he has added to the concrete threshold as a moisture and insect barrier. Bob and Ryley then put the door in the opening, hoisting the bottom side in first. Bob shows us the temporary casing pieces of wood that Ryley has put on the door to act as casing so they can easily mount the door flush with the OSB wall. Bob and Ryley adjust the door and nail it in through more shims with ten-penny finish nails. Next Ryley adds a spline against the door where the siding will hit the casing to act as a moisture shield. He then applies the cedar casing to the door with the rough side out and will add window flashing at the top. More information
