I read numerous questions on this topic, however none answered my question. My house is 5 years old, I am the 2nd owner. The original owner had the house stained in a redwood colored stain. The shingles are cedar. The stain is already wearing off. The house is in a windy area as it sits on top of a hill (500 ft above sea level) and gets a lot of sun as well. I'm looking to change to a lighter color. Am I better off priming and painting with oil-based or latex over the stain? Or should I stick with stain, and would a lighter color cover? I live in New England if that helps.
