Whole House Fan

My house is 32yr old and I believe the whole house fan is that old too. The attic opening is only about a foot wide; I cannot fit up in it. So I guess my question would be how do I work from the ground up and then once I’m pass the fan where do I fine out the brand and code for the monitor?
