Greg - you sure can. Remember though that you will see the seams more noticeably.
Make sure your paper is clean. Apply one coat of Glidden Ultra-Hide Gripper. When that is dry - two coats of the appropriate (for you application) finish coat in your choice of color.
As most people on here know I like Glidden Paints. Evermore/Ultra-Hide/Ralph Lauren.
