Yes, Melissa, you certainly can tile over that orange brick. (I didn't like mine, either.)
You will want to first cover the brick with 1/4" HardieBacker; this is a cement board that will give you a surface for the tile. It can be adhered to the brick with a full-flex mortar.
This is an easy to use product that will meet all the needs here, both for tiling & as an acceptable material to use near a firebox. Good luck! Was this post helpful? Yes: or No:
