John, We painted our basement floor 4-5 years ago with an oil based paint. It has worn very well but now I plan to repaint. This time I will use regular "water" based paint BUT-- I will be putting 2-3 coats of polyurathane on top of the paint. This should help keep the paint looking fresh - no peeling - easier to sweep, etc. I found a book at menards that showed the procedure but have not purchased the book so can't tell you the name.
