I have several bathrooms in my house that do not get used often, especially the tub on the main floor. If the water in the trap dries up then the odor comes out the pipe, so I run water and fill up the trap and that is the end of that odor. Also if you have an onsite septic and a house vent they are supposed t smell somewhat...that just means that the septic is "fermenting" and taking care of the solid wastes. Good luck
