Painting laminate Posted by Henry in MI on August 9th, 1999 04:11 PM In reply to can I add sand to paint ... ? by danielle on August 9th, 1999 01:12 PM [Go to top of thread]
Hi, Danielle. Sorry to say this, but, to me, it sounds like you are working toward a disaster. Paint will stick to laminates--for a while. While you can paint them, I would be very concerned about the paint chipping or flaking off. This might not be much of a problem if this was not in a food prep area. Since it probably is, I would be concerned about both getting paint in the food and about juices from meat and so on getting into the surface. The moist painted surface would be a great place for germs to grow. Instead of this, have you considered replacing the laminate? Depending on your layout, this could be a relatively simple job. The many available choices of new laminate will make it hard for you to make a choice but this still seems easier than worrying about the problems with painted laminate. Henry in MI
