I have asbestos-vinyl floor tiles for flooring in the finished part of my basement. The tiles are attached directly to some kind of floor possibly made of concrete, and I can see some small stones set into the (concrete) floor where vinyl tile is broken off. My concern is that I found a white powdery substance underneath the vinyl floor tiles, and in some places there is a lot of the white powdery substance under the tiles where tiles have come loose. I have no idea what this powdery stuff could be, and so I would like to know if anyone has any idea what this powder could be. The house was built in 1957, although I have no idea when the vinyl floor was installed.
Any ideas as to what the white powder could be would be greatly appreciated.
