Sounds like you have things well under control. Your contractor is probably as qualified as anyone to recognize any risk. As I said before, asbestos in the ceilings was very unlikely, and I agree with your contractor. The flooring sounds like it is going to work out for the best. Actually its nice to see that a professional on the job is basically in agreement with those of us that have not seen the situation.
