My husband tried to change the faucets in our brand new home the other day, but had forgotten to turn off the main water valve. Needless to say, we had a flood in the bathroom, which had spilled over into our carpeted walk-in closet before we were able to get to the water shut off valve. We soaked up as much as we could with towels, then used a shop vac to suck up more. We've had a heater and a fan going for about three days now, but there is a strong mildew odor now.
Should we rip up the carpet and replace the padding at this point? I am worried about long term problems in this room.
(Oh, and my husband is banned from doing any more plumbing work!)
