for this situation on a cedar home, but which was quite time consuming, was to mask the wood on either side of the gap and apply clear silicon caulking into the gap and then press a LOT of cedar sawdust into the fresh silicon. After a couple of days of curing, each joint was dressed with sharp wood chisel and a bit of rough sandpaper. Came out pretty nice. This job wasn't due to shrinkage. The installer left gaps for expansion that never happened. You might check with the manufacturer of your siding for their ideas. Luck, Kizmet
