Many rubber backed rugs for the bath and kitchen will discolor the inlaid material. The discoloration is permanent. I would say your only recourse is to go back to the manufacturer of the rug or the store that sold it to you, and demand a new floor. This seems extreme, but this problem happens too often for them to ignore. Small claims court may be an option.
