Sorry Mark......a typical section garage door transfers the weight of the door to the horizontal with the springs to assist........... Without that change of direction the springs and GDO would have to LIFT/HOLD the weight of the Garage door...........No way! The commercial units are usually some form of Roll-up doors that perform the lift......... What do you want to build in-there.......maybe a loft?
