fatal exception OE error has occurred at 017F:BFF9DFFF

I have been experiencing this error message when trying to load a document into MS Word 2000.
Often works ok if I use Win Explorer.
Have tried changing RAM strip(s) but no change.
Anyone else suffered (and fixed) this problem?
