Craftsman 1/2 hp garage door Remotes work at short range

All has been well for years now.Then one day remotes only work sometimes or you have to be below the opener.Replaced batteries in both remotes and reset codes and nothing.The keyless entry is the same ,it only works sometimes.I am thinking about splicing into the antenna and extending it across the ceiling?Any ideas ?
