Grab the insert under the upper lip of the mouth and give it a good yank, if it seems to move at all (you may want a husky person to do this), it is all but certain it can be removed. Make sure to unhook the liner if it is hooked directly to the insert, usually you can remove the shroud to do this. Have the chimney inspected before use.
