Deb, paint on a coat of Zinsser's B-I-N. This is a shellac based primer/sealer and it is commonly available in home improvement store paint departments. It's the shellac that will seal the odor in the walls and ceiling that should make a big improvement. Those odors permiated into the wall materials, wood, etc. Sealing the odors in should be a big improvement.
I assume that you have checked the spaces that you can't easily see for more visible problems. This would include things like attic and crawl spaces. Sounds like you are on a concrete slab with no crawl space but you did not say.
