I guess my husband was right (but I don't have to tell him, do I?) He was against the idea but said he'd do it for me if I really, really wanted it done. I do use the fireplace - it's not just there for show. I can see heat discoloration on the charcoal colored brick just above the screen. I can imagine the discoloration on a white brick fireplace!
