I suspect that the poster really meant vinyl, though he said linoleum. Most people don't realize that they are two very different products, and they use the terms interchangeably. Linoleum is making a big,deserved comeback these days,so I think we have to be careful and no longer assume they meant to say vinyl.
You gave a great description of the seaming procedure for vinyl, but that same procedure wouldn't work as well for real linoleum. That's one of the many differences. Linoleum moves too much and needs time to adjust in size and the adhesive to take a set before trimming and gluing the seams.
Sorry, don't mean to be too picky; I just happen to be a big fan of real linoleum and am among the relatively few people around who have a fair bit of experience with it.
