I, too, am aware of this combined usage of terms by many people, and am myself aware of the difference having grown up in a family rooted in the floor-covering industry; a path I also followed eventually leading to custom home design & construction.
I'm glad you bring this up, as I failed this go-round to make mention of the distinction in my reply, and just now realized I even used the term linoleum in the subject.
Thanks for the "heads up," Paul; he may well have been speaking of true linoleum.
