Cleaning Sandstone Fireplace

Well, you guys are certainly getting me closer to
trying to clean the fireplace again; I guess I'd
have to do that before I painted it anyway, so
yes, I'll give it another try. I believe that
both times before that I attempted to clean it I
just used of a cleaning solution that was recommended
to me at a home fixup type place. So, if this
tsp stuff is the best thing to use to clean up
that sort of a surface, I'll try it first (that
whole acid thing sounds like a bad idea since I
have a springer spaniel puppy living with me now).
Any tips on the use of this tsp stuff? I'm really
grateful for all the advice you all are giving
me -- I tried to get help at Home DePot so many
times but they are soooo busy it's impossible to
get someones attention for more than two minutes.
