Patching a wall

I have patched several of my walls (i have dry wall)by cutting a piece of scrap dry wall. Using the scrap as a backer in the hole from behind.then triming out another piece to fit into the hole & attach that piece to the backer . then tape & mudd. sand & repeat until you have a smooth seamless patch . prime & then paint. Its not a big deal but will take about an hour a hole.
