Cathe, I had a similar problem with nearly every room in our twenty-eight year old house that hadn't been updated since the 70's. After patching the holes I bought a smooth texture and put it on a sponge that had irregular edges. I was able to come up with a texture that hid vertually every flaw. You can be the judge of how thick you want the texture to be. Good Luck!! Still learning in Kansas, Jackie
